Pre-Trinity Composers
The pre-trinity composers were saints who used music to share their beliefs. The composers in this category lived from a time span over 1200 years, up until the trinity composers. They had a great sense of musical composition what provided the basis of the arrangement of Indian music and their culture's musicology. Many composed in the rakti ragas (specific style of music) and are filled with many beautifully written lyrics for the gods. The main composer of this category is Purandarasdasa whose works continue to influence today.
Purandarasdasa
Purandaradasa (1484-1564) is one of the most influencial composers of Carnatic music, so much so that he is also referred to as the "father of Carnatic music." Religion and worship were not the only subjects addressed in his musical compositions. He also talked about social issues affecting Indian culture. There are presently 1000 pieces of his music that continue to be enjoyed today that are mainly in Kannada and Sanskrit.
