Pakhavaj
The Pakhavaj is a barrel shaped drum and is essentially a north Indian version of the mrindangam. It was once very common but in the last few generations, the tabla has become more popular. The pakhavaj is laced with rawhide and has tuning blocks placed between the straps and shell. A right-handed player would put the smaller end at their right side and the larger end in their left hand.
